Beware of Disaster Scams

Security Tips

In the wake of major hurricanes this season, security experts are warning Americans to remain vigilant against scams targeting victims and donors. Often after natural disasters individuals receive fraudulent emails directing them to malicious websites. Be sure when you receive an email with a hurricane- or disaster-related subject line, attachment, or hyperlink that you know and trust the sender before opening it. Also, be wary of social media pleas for donations, texts, and door-to-door solicitations related to severe weather.
